So I snagged up a nice little Airspy R2 on Black Friday and been playing with it for the last few months. Im hanging in there learning more about the SIRN network and other near by freq. I bought the R2 in hope to monitor some police dispatch in my area (particular the falling waters area) but the SIRN network really put a damper on my efforts.

So this brings me to my post here... if you live in the panhandle of West Virginia or in the 70/81 intersection of Hagerstown, Clear Spring, Handcock, Williamsport, Falling Waters, Martinsburg, Inwood, Hedgesville, Etc.... what in the hell are you listening too? LOL what could possibly be out there in this area to listen too? are you really listening to proctor and gamble? or one of the other manufacturing plants around here?

Does anyone pick up anything interesting from the near by WVU medical center?

Looking for some interesting reply's to keep my interest. I honestly thought about picking up a HF and seeing what I can hear on a clear night.

I'm in Charles Town, Jefferson County. The most interesting listening in my opinion is Jefferson/Berkeley Fire/EMS Talkgroups and the law talkgroups to include the WV State Police, Charles Town and Martinsburg detachments. You'll find all of them in the database. Sometimes Potomac Edison can be worth listening to during storms or power outages. There's a bunch of business, itinerant, railroad, DMR business, Hollywood Casino security to listen to, but those are not on my daily listening list. There's also Mil-Air and some federal government chatter out there and of course, the various amateur repeaters on 2m and 70cm bands. There are a few other guys on here who are local and can chime in with their favorites.

As far as public safety goes, peak action is found most Friday/Saturday nights (and nights before holidays) between 6pm and 4am, especially between 1am and 4am. Most Friday afternoons between 3pm and 7pm there are a ton of cardiac arrests due to drug overdoses (payday) where the EMS systems get depleted. There's no encryption to be found yet, except for some SIRN State Police TAC channels and the Berkeley County Sheriff's office, where you'll only hear dispatches for incidents on their main law TG. Their dept's operations channel is encrypted, though.

that's good information thank you atlong. I guess what I'm really hoping for is some dispatch audio so when we know when the sheriff dispatch someone to a near by residence that is on their constant offender list. some of the residents around here say they call and they never get any response so i would like to hear what's going on if possible.

i hope some of the others chime in too i would be intrested to hear others too
