National standards??? BS. It is much easier to simulcast digitally than by analog. I bet there were dead spots on reception. Bad enough on portables, especially on high band, especially in areas where the noise floor probably sucked.

Agreed. It’s my understanding there were probably dead spots, especially while using handheld radios.I won’t speak for Chris but I suspect he also noted a reluctance, the real reason for the upgrade. Maybe the person he talked to wasn’t all that informed?

If it was poor coverage, I don’t get anyone’s reluctance to simply lay it out for all to see… after all, it’s a legit reason for improvements. In any event, the reason why is moot at this stage of the game. Money has been spent and the system is operational. I was just looking for someone to agree with my take on the subject.

I know the radio people that did it. I know the people in the town that authorized it. It made sense. Safety 1st.

I have no idea why they went to digital, although I would not be buying new radios now without them at least being upgradable to P25.
They chose P25, that is the federal recommended public safety digital mode, perhaps that is where the National Standards part came from.
I have talked to a user and he indicated they are happy with the outcome.

I only passed along with what I was told.
Do I agree with it…. Sure….. could there have been more behind it (ie: dead spot recovery, SAFETY) absolutely. Why he didn’t expand on it I don’t know. Either way, national standard, dead spot coverage, safety, I would be perfectly happy with it.
