BERTHOUD - One teenager is dead and three others were very seriously injured in a car accident Wednesday afternoon near Berthoud.


It happened just before 4 p.m. at Larimer County Road 4 and Weld County Road 1.

The State Patrol says four teens in a Lexus headed east on a gravel road apparently didn't stop at a stop sign. They were broadsided by a pickup.
State troopers say no one in the Lexus was wearing a seatbelt. One girl was killed and two boys have life threatening injuries. Investigators say they also found drug paraphernalia in the car.

Stephanie Bender, who lives nearby, says it is common for people to go too fast along the gravel road and ignore the stop sign. She says traffic on the county road has also increased in recent years making the intersection a hazard.
