At 67 I am putting up my first Ham Radio Tower. At the very top I would like to mount an aero antenna so I have two questions for you. (1) What would be the best to withstand that height and pull in the best signals (I prefer aero monitoring of commercial planes) and (2) what would be the best cable to run for about 65 feet to my shack. Loss should not be an issue of just a receiving antenna I would think. Much thanks for your help and advice.

I am looking for commercial and yes, with UHF. Thanks for both your responses.

By UHF, do you mean the extensive MILITARY aircraft UIHF band? I bet there's a lot of MILAIR traffic you can hear from Holloman AFB and White Sands.

Aviation antenna.

I stuck one of these up a tree once, was a bit directional, but picked up a lot of VHF and UHF comms in the area.

It was mounted to an aluminum plate and a pipe that was attacked to the top of an evergreen tree.

AT-1108 aviation antenna. I used LMR-400 when it was in use, not too much loss for receive.
