Best all around software for the Pro-96?

Greetings gents. I just picked up a Pro-96 about a month ago (newbie by the way) and i'm looking for some all around software for it. All around meaning ability to work with Uniden's as well as RS's so that i'd be able to transfer/sync freq's back and forth from Rat Shack to Uniden (already thinking about their BC796D base/mobile model!) and vice versa and also have the ability to cut, copy, paste etc. Starrsoft's Win 96's interface looks nice and all but i think it lacks the above requirements by myself. Unlike Scancat's Scancat-Lite-Plus I think that the above requirements are already incorporated. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The PRO-96 is a GRE Radio. WIN96 is for the PRO-96 only.
It does everything.

If memory serves, it will not transfer anything to a Uniden; however, it does have an export function to csv format that most good programs such as ARC250 and Scan Control can map. Don Starr is a constant visitor on the Strong Signals boards, a couple of Yahoo groups, and several other places, so it's easy to get support.

Scancat Lite Plus is nice software, but it suffers from an overly complex layout and a lack of consistent testing with each radio it claims to support. I wouldn't guarantee that moving data from a PRO96 to a Uniden would go all that smoothly. Jim Springer often is found on the Scancat Yahoo group, and he is willing to answer questions and get fixes done.

If you mean StarrSoft, that's who makes Win96.

Win96 is the best - hands down.

I think 1Yankee figures he will only need to set up the Pro-96 using Scancat Lite Plus, then when he buys the 796 simply save his 96 file to a 796 file. This will likely require editing because mapping will need shuffling, both with freqs and Id's and their associated tags.

IMHO, the best choice may be to wait for the Pro-2096, which will work directly with Win96 and also clone with the Pro-96.

PRO-96 is a portable, and roughly equivallent to a BC296D

The BC796D is a base/mobile, and is roughly equal to a PRO-2096 (which should be out in a month or two)

Win96 will program the PRO-96 and should program the PRO-2096. It will not program either Uniden model.

it's definitly worth the thiry bucks for WIN96. Don has done an excelent job at writing it.
