Well, I don't really know what kind of antenna I have on my bc125at except it came from my BCT15x base unit.
It's a telescopic antenna and it works much better than the one that comes with the bc125at scanner.

I'm mostly listening to frequencies in the 153-159 range and the 450-460 range.

Others will post their thoughts and suggestions and I'm sure they can give you some names of good antenna's that will work.

They may want to know what frequencies you listen to mostly to zero in on an antenna that will work better for your needs.

I use an ST2 antenna connected to my base but I've hooked it up to the bc125at also and I can pick up frequencies 60-80 miles or more away.

I like it but it is kinda big.

I too have mountains around me but I have it about 12' above my metal roof.
