Best Antenna for my BCD536HP

I live in a rural area, how do I choose an outside antenna that will work best of me. I was looking at a Diamond D130NJ, LMR 400 coax. Thanks

I use this same antenna mounted on my roof and have excellent results.

Rules of thumb are get your antenna as high as you can and use the best coax you can afford (and LMR 400 is good stuff).

That is my go to setup- without fail, as I am interested in hearing everything & anything, Rural might be a tad more challenging as you are relying on overlap of radio signal from a neighbouring community or county depending on your relation to a major suburban environment, as previous gentleman has advised up high as feasable is best, depending on target reception : you can also consider directional (yagi style) once you are comfortable with overall scanner and what you can receive.Good luck & happy listening.

Discones like the Diamond 130 are good for VHF-Hi and UHF bands, but aren't that great for VHF-Lo or 800 MHz. It would be worth your while to look up your county in the Radioreference database, determine who/what you want to monitor and what frequencies they are using. Matching the antenna to the band will give you the best results.
