it is possible that you are getting some sort of overload. If this is the case, a "better" antenna may make it worse. If your scanner has an attenuator, try putting that on for WH & NB. If you live within 1/4 mile of a Nextel site, you may be out of luck no matter what you do.

New Britain puts out a notoriously bad signal so I'm not surprised you are having a hard time hearing them. RS has an antenna specifically designed for the 800Mhz band, although I have never tried it so I'm not sure how well it works: http://tinyurl.com/2lqg3c

The 800Mhz antenna from Radioshack does boost the signal over the stock antenna. You may have better luck with that.

Best antenna

The footprint (area of coverage) is limited for the City of New Britain. The radio signal barely gets into Newington. Although the City is working on a new Radio System it will be a few months before things improve and even then you may not pick it up in Rocky Hill.

Is the new system going to transmit from the same location? Rattlesnake Mountain in Farmington really blocks NB's signal from traveling west.

thanks for the help everyone. i bought the radioshack 800 mhz antenna and it really does boost the signal tremendously.sometimes at night i can get bits and pieces of new britain.
it even works well for lower bands. i tried 3 antennas and this one works the best. the stock ntennas was ok. i tried " the conductor" by austin antenna but it doesnt work as well as the 800mhz from radio shack. another good thing about it is that it relatively small about 8 or 9 inches thanks again.

The main site (NBGH) will remain the same. Coverage should be improved depending on if they add one or two simulcasts. The study is being done now. Bids to follow.
