Best long distance Frequency? HF CB ETC

Ive tried HF and CB radio. Use to you could get CB to go a long way at night but not for me in recent years. Maybe sun spots or lack of. Tried HF but still not getting to foreign countries. I know probably need more power but cant really afford an amps right now. Wonder about building an antenna maybe some kind of ground directional. Not sure.

Choosing the right frequency/band for the time of day/conditions matters.
Antenna -always- matters.

More power only makes a slight difference and it won't fix poor antennas or using the wrong bands.

Not to get too technical into HF propagation, so below is just the basics that will get you started.

Higher frequencies in daylight and lower frequencies when dark for DX mostly.

That means 20 meters (14 MHz) to 10 (28 MHz) meters in thre day. At night 40 (7 MHz) and 75 (3.7 MHz) meters are good.

Sometimes when band conditions are good 20 meters is open day and night.
