Ok here iam again trying to let people know bout this bct8 scanner its just a awesome scanner for the price everything the bc246t can get this can get the bc246t is yes more advanced but for the money and what it can do most areas 250 channesl is more then enough honest anyone who wants a trunking scanner thats not digital i would not buy any other scanner then bct8 ive been scanning for over 15 years however if you could afford a digital scanner i would go that route but for me i do not need digital yet so bct8 and then save for a digital i just think this is one awesome little scanner just my point of view be great to hear some other users happy new year everryone hope you have some great scanning

At $149.95 I think the PRO95 is the best scanner for the dollar. I really enjoy mine and frankly where I live does everything but one that my PRO96 does.

I would agree the Pro 95 is a great scanner. I love mine but the 246 is a great scanner for non digital areas as well. I would have to say either the Pro-95 and 246 are the best for non digital areas. I like them since they are easy to go mobile with like the size of my 246 alot.

I think the BCT8 is a great scanner for the money and easy to use.
Most people can not use a 1000 channels. Uniden has a winner in
this scanner with 250 channels. My first scanner was a 8 channel
bearcat by Electra and in those good ole days. I had a Regency
and a Hallicrafters model CRX-1 with two crystals channel one and
channel two. We have come long ways in this hobby, but sometimes
I WONDER ABOUT OUR FUTURE.

Who says most people cant use 1000 channels? I live in a somewhat small town and there is no way that I could only get away with 250 channels. Plus no alfa tags is a BIG let down.

For the extra $50, I think the BC246T wins hands down. You get alpha tags, more channels, and the size difference alone is worth the extra. You just can't beat a scanner that is half the size for portability. I think that twice the size = four times the aggrivation. I can carry the 246T in a short pocket without ripping off the pocket. LTR is another bonus.

Don't forget the dynamic memory function comes in real handy with EDACS systems so you don't waste a whole bank. Since the 246 has no banks that makes it better and the close call feature as well. I give my 246 the hands down winner over my pro 95 but still enjoy the 95.

It's interesting to see all the responses are for handhelds; but what about base/mobile units? I think the BC780 will have to be in the race, for sure.

I don't know that you can buy them new anymore, but I agree with you mike. my BC780 is on all the time. Even here in Colorado, where most of it is digital. It's a great radio!

The BC780 is a great mobile/base scanner. I am just as happy with it today as I was when I bought it when it first came out.

I very much liked the 235 xlt.... If you dont need digital.....
It will pick up the most distant stations with ease, and with a rubber duckie I may add (dont know about it using a discone meaning that it could overload or not)

But if anyone has heard or owned one , you should know what im saying....

I do mean for the price tag its one good little picker upper...
