What would be the recomedation for one of Whistlers non DMR scanners

Paul, the WS1040 (Handheld) & WS1065 (Base/Mobile) both work well on MPSCS and analog systems in Allegan/Kent/Ottawa Co. Michigan. Also the WS1088/1098 even with the latest firmware including DMR will work just fine. The 1040 & 1065 are more "user friendly" however.

If you don't need P25 phase 2, the WS1040 and WS1065 are great. P25 decode sounds better on the WS1080 and newer, though.

There are only 4 Whistler scanners that are non-DMR scanners so make your choice based upon what type of scanner that you want (handheld or desktop/mobile) and what your local reception needs are (analog only or digital P25 phase I):

WS1010 handheld analog only
WS1025 desktop/mobile analog only

WS1040 handheld digital (P25 phase I)
WS1065 desktop/mobile digital (P25 phase I)

All of the other 6 Whistler scanners (WS1080, WS1088, WS1095, WS1098, TRX-1 and TRX-2) all receive DMR as well as digital P25 phase II.
