I drive a 2012 Volkswagen Jetta; what the best location for best reception? The trunk lid or the roof? Thank you. Should it be in the middle or to one certain side? or?

My suggestion would be on the roof as long as it isn't too tall and wouldn't hit things above. The kind of antenna would depend on what frequencies you are monitoring. Placing the antenna on the roof would be the easiest because you could run the wire through the door or window. If you placed the antenna on the trunk, you would have to run the wires under the body of your vehicle.

Center of the roof. This gives you the best groundpane, and gets the antenna up and clear of the roof of the car

Is the roof of the car metal? If so, that is the best place, for maximum signal.

Placing the antenna on the trunk often leads to fading of signals that are coming from the front of the car.
