Hello All,

I have two scanners, the BCD396T and the BCT15. I would like to purchase some software that is compatable with both of the scanners. Can anyone please suggest the best program to purcahse? I normally program by hand but it takes so long to program both and it seems like everyweek I have to go in there and move something around or just mess with the freq I have programmed. I would like to do this on the PC now that I know how to to do everything manually. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

James

There are several in fact that will do both radios; BCTool, FreeScan (both are freeware), ProScan, Scan Control, Trunkstar Elite. All you need to do is to take a look at the wiki articles for both radios for all the links.

Everyone has their own opinions on the 'best' software, but here's my take; BCTool is slightly behind the times; poor Rob hasn't had the time to upgrade it with changes and fixes for version 3 firmware and numerous bugs. He does say he's going to upgrade it over the Xmas holiday, however. It's very nice, but if you have the newer firmware, FreeScan is better. I also have Scan Control, but at least I have had numerous issues with it crashing on the worst times. It's editor is also very klunky. I don't have ProScan but looks very nice. To be honest I've heard absolutely zilch about the Trunkstar product.

I like FreeScan - at first I didn't think I'd like it's all-scanners-in-one-form approach, but it's manageable. Assaf is very responsive about responding to bugs and questions.

Everything except Scan Control has the ability to download data from the database with a premium subscription, which if you have a large number of systems to do, is highly recommended.

Here are the links to the subscription and wiki articles;

I use ScanControl on my RS Pro-2052 and it works great! I've noticed that it supports the BCT15, which is the next scanner I am looking at for my comm room.

Check them out at ww.scannersoft.com for a working demo version.
