Wondering what would be the best scanner to buy. Either base/mobile or handheld, it doesn't matter. I want to be able to scan LTR, MOT, EDACS as well as the state DTRS.

Is there a scanner out that will scan the 700mhz DTRS frequencies that I've been reading about?

Right now NONE. Later this year the Uniden BCD396T portable may.

Currently the Uniden BC296D portable and BC796D desktop will do all those formats but you will cringe at the lack of audio AGC on the state DTRS which has severe volume problems. i.e. normal sounding audio level then suddenly getting hit with a volume 2 to 3 times louder such as CSP dispatchers cranking up the microphone gain on their wireless headsets, microphone eating field users and those god awful Johnson radios Firestone PD uses.

Radio Shack's PRO-96 portable and PRO-2096 base/mobile do not have LTR capability and have talk-group tracking issues with the state DTRS system.

No.

It is hoped that the (just FCC approved) Uniden BCD396T handheld will cover the 700 MHz trunking properly but don't expect to see this radio available till late summer or early fall.

Phil.
