I have a Pro-97, but in reading the forum, seems like it will be rather useless before long. Is there a scanner that you guys would recommend for me to upgrade to? Also, what *will* I be able to use the Pro-97 for?

I personally love my BC396XT. It picks up everything around here (metro Montgomery County) area with ease , MARCS also which is what I'm guessing you are looking for. Butt as with everything else everyone has their opinion

Greene County will be removing their current EDACS system and joining MARCS within the next year or so. So you will need a digital scanner. You did not mention whether you are looking for a desktop/mobile or a handheld scanner. The BC396XLT is a great scanner with a smaller profile than most other handhelds. However, it seems the GRE based scanners such as the PSR-500 and PSR-800 are supported better by local hobbyists. You cannot go wrong no matter which digital scanner you may choose. If you click on the 'Wiki' tab above you can go to the various pages and read about the different models and see which ones might suit your needs and wants the best.
