Im in the market for a BC15 scanner that I can mount in my trucks radio opening when I get a new radio for my truck. I was looking at one briefly at a store in Lodi,NJ when asking about antenna's. I liked the fact that it can be mounted in a double din opening.

But before I plunk down the cash, i'de like to know if there are any stores in the Northern NJ area i should check out for the best prices or should I just go online? Also what accessories should I get for the scanner? Do they make mounting brackets for the double din openings or do I rely on the trucks? What wire(s) should i get if I want the scanner to come over my stock speakers and not rely on a speaker setup? Are there any other scanners out there that are capable of beeing installed in a double din radio opening?

I know I should google these things. But im at work and only have this website approved to look at and some weather ones. So im limited as to what I can view.

Oh BTW, this would be going in my 98 ford f150 ext. cab flareside p'up. No drilling will be happening! :) or it might go in a new ford f250 if things play out right.

With regards to where to buy your scanner, I would recommend Communications Electronics Inc. http://www.usascan.com/files/scanners.html. I found their prices, which include UPS shipping, to be unbeatable. I have purchased four Uniden scanners from them and am completely satisfied. They're great to deal with, have a 30 day money back guarantee, and I received my items in 3 to 4 business days from time of order. The guarantee MAY be more than 30 days, but I know it's at least that and if you order from them you can ask. You can order online or by phone. To order by phone click on "Contact Us" in the top right corner of the page and go to item #10 for the toll free phone number.

As for your questions about mounting and the accessories needed to do so, I'm unable to help you there, but they may be able to provide you with advice and the necessary items or someone here may be able to advise you as to the best way to do it.

Take a look at Ebay. People dump these all the time. I take it you don't monitor digital?

i only have a pro97. i really only monitor railroad frequencies when im out doing some photography. i might occasionally turn on spen or the pd i dispatch at. other then that i dont think i'de need digital unless its necessary to get it.

Advanced Specialities

If you are in NNJ, go to Advanced Specialities in Lodi.
John has a very good selection of scanners at very competitive prices.

the price's may be very competitive, but then you have to pay the n.j. sale's tax.a well chosen scanner from a on-line source will be less.even with the shipping charge.

But if you should have any problems it's easier to return it to John. FWIW I'm not affiliated with him but I have bought many items from them.

Is this the store on Essex st right by rt80? If so i've been there and he was very helpfull when I was asking about scanner antenna's after i put on a radioshack window mount. Thats also where I saw the one uniden scanner that can be mounted in the dash above the radio.

I bought my 996T from him, no problems. His price wasn't bad even though I had to pay NJ sales tax. Yeah you can order online, you might not have to pay sales tax but you have to pay shipping. But if you go to Advanced you will have your new toy the same day to enjoy instead of waiting 5-6 days for it to arrive.

I've bought from Advanced also, and I had no problems.

It's not like the store is going to fix your scanner no matter where you buy it. Buy the brand you want at the cheapest price. Total out the door price including shipping/tax should be the lowest. No one sells a better scanner than anyother.
Oh, unless you like wasting money!
