From what I understand Forestry has very few 800 radios. Most of the personnel in the field are using VHF.

I live by a retired fire warden near Bethune. He said only the law enforcement and some of the radio men carry 800 radios, He said wardens have 32 to 64 channel radios but he only needed 3 channels-- 1 local repeater- McBee, 1 tactical channel 5 and the local fire dept- Kershaw Dispatch. He told me that forestry dispatches to wardens using phone pagers or cell phones and when they rspond they talks to dispatch on the repeater until they along with either a ranger or another warden shows up.. then they switch to a tack channel... He carried a small kenwood ht just before retirement so I assume the forestry uses kenwood radios. My man told me that He liked the bendix king radio better he toted for 15 years...
