Before I get to my question, here are systems and frequencies based on Omaha, Nebraska that I will reference in my question:

ORION System (https://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=2361) is a P25 system. Let's say I'm interested in Omaha Police, Douglas County Sheriff, Douglas County Corrections, and Omaha Fire

Sarpy County System (https://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=622) is a Motorola Type II SmartZone system. Let's say I'm interested in Sarpy County LE West and Fire Channels.

NSRS System (https://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=6699) is a P25 system. Let's say I'm interested in State Patrol Troop A - Omaha.

Conventional Analog Frequency 1 is a local retail store.

Conventional Digital Frequency 2 is a local retail store that is DMR (no trunking) with time slots and a talkgroup.

With all the systems listed above as an example, and me using an SDS100, how can I scan with the following scenarios most effectively?

[Scenario A]

Here, I would like to listen to Omaha Police Northwest (ORION System), Omaha Police Southeast (ORION System), LE West (Sarpy County System) channels only. Each system has more talkgroups of course, but I'm only interested in scanning selected channels while still having the other channels programmed in a favorites list somewhere in case I want to listen to those too.

[Scenario B]

Here, I would like to listen to All Omaha Police which is NW, NE, SE, and SW (ORION System), Troop A - Omaha (NSRS System), Conventional Analog Frequency 1, and Conventional Digital Frequency 2. I'm assuming that the conventional frequencies can go into another favorites list that I turn on and then I'm brought back to Scenario A. Just checking.

[Scenario C]

I still want an option to ID scan entire systems, which is what I do right now. I want to see what other people use for multiple systems. Turn off QKs for systems?

----------------------------------------

I'm used to GRE and Motorola where I can create a list of channels from multiple systems, and those scanners/radios would know how to efficiently scan the system once and allow you to mix and match channels. I was hoping this could be a suggestion where you could have systems scanned and programmed once but have favorites lists dictate the channels and mix and match from those systems. I'm assuming that this feature is not going to be implemented so what are my options? Create multiple favorites lists for each scenario but copying the systems multiple times depending on what I want to scan on those systems? Seems like a lot of wasted memory space. Any other options?

The easiest/best and possibly only real way to scan limited talkgroups from multiple systems (more fine grained than systems combined with service types) is to create a specific custom favorites list for each combination of subset of talkgroups.

Then, during times monitoring the subset, enable just that custom favorites list.

And that's creating a new copy of the system per favorite, correct? That's the only way I saw it but just double checking.

Yes - copy in whichever systems you are interested in listening to in that limited fashion and then strip them down by removing departments/talkgroups (and maybe sites) and/or setting those not of (limited monitoring interest) to avoid.

Talkgroups can't be shared across "departments" inside a given favorites list.

Systems can't be shared across favorites lists.
