Greetings,

I was curious;
What's the most popular portable for use on the new system?
I understand it's digital and trunked, and looks like some analog interoperability as well. Is that correct?

With that in mind, what are most of you using to communicate on this system?

Are you seeing mostly XTS2500's?
Or perhaps XTS500's?

Or is there an entirely different line of radios in use?

I would say go with the XTS5000 if you can find a good one with tags. The XTS5000 is just a way better radio then the XTS2500. The radio is just solid. Since Wyolink uses VHF trunking you would need to know how to program the multi trunking table into the radio. That is not an easy process. If you don't enter in the information right the trunking system will not work on the radio.

My suggestion if they use analog interops too you might want to find an APX7000 if you have the cash and then you can grow into the radio. I think it might be worth looking into it. Just be-careful when buying one of those radios. Make sure you do your homework and don't dive into it too fast. You don't want to get a development radio that is beat up. The Motorola APX radio is a dual band radio for this system. Good Luck

APX

Yeah, that would be a sweet radio...no doubt. But the multi-thousand price tag is a little hard to justify. Besides, I haven't found one that was VHF/800 yet all the one's I've seen so far have been 700/800 with UHF as the second band. Also, with only 2 800 truked systems that I'm aware of (that would be of interest to me) I think I'll stay with a single band radio.

I hadn't considered an XTS5000. I'll go look at that. I have experince with conventional programming with my XTS3000 and the software was pretty straight forward.... Currently I own an HT1550XLS with the super-cool RED battery. It'll be up for sale as soon as I can find a sutable digital replacement.

An XTS5000 VHF isnt going to be cheap either. Around a thousand bucks roughly. You could always take that thousand and spend another thousand and have a really nice 700/800 VHF unit which I have and be totally happy for a long time. Bluetooth and the whole nine yards and you won't be dis-appointed. But it all up to how much you can spend.
