They've been doing pretty much everything for the wrong reasons. Everything they say should be treated as a lie until shown to be otherwise. "Puerto Rico is a good news story!"

That has nothing to do with virus protection..

Since the ban was brought up by jonwienke, I did some checking. There are too many sources to name here. Anyone can Google it. But, I have found that there are too many unanswered questions for me to risk my computer information to Kaspersky. It may be the greatest protection out there but I'm not willing to chance it. There are other good alternatives.

This not like risking $5 on the table with a pair of deuces in my hand. Rather, I don't want the information in my computer compromised. That's the bottom line.

Since we are talking about anti virus software, I tried Kaspersky a few years back. Didn't like it. Deleted it. It might not be all that effective, but I use the free version of AVG. It hasn't caused too many problems. In my humble opinion, if you are using Symantec you have a virus. They use it here at work and I absolutely hate the stuff. You can't turn it off. And, you can't delete it either. I plugged in a USB stick that had some software that Symantec considers malware on it and the antivirus program deleted it. I didn't even try to run it. I went to the tray and clicked "disable". Reloaded my program and sure enough, Symantec deleted it yet again. I finally found that you can create an exceptions list and list things you want it to leave alone. If you have it and are happy with it, I am glad. I just don't want that stuff anywhere near a PC I own.

Then get off the Internet. Nothing short of that will guarantee your security. Pretty much all software has flaws and sooner or later they get exploited. Still waiting for proof that Kaspersky is compromising your computer.

Officially Kaspersky was banned because of "suspicions" but in the past few days there has been mention that one agency or user from one agency was hacked, and apparently "targeted" because they were a Kaspersky user. That's terribly vague--but that was about all the nooze said. Vague things about Kaspersky, nothing definite from any source yet.

I can brush a smart remark like that aside because I didn't say Kaspersky was bad and I never said it compromised my computer. As a matter of fact, I think I said it might be okay. I did say there seems to be some question marks, however. On the other hand, I've been using PCs since '92 and the Internet after that and I've never had a problem using other protection and if it ain't broke, I ain't gonna fix it.

Offhand I agree with you.
However, Kaspersky, like every other AV product, has the ability to go online and update itself, either automatically, or when you click 'update'. So, let's suppose you were the FSS, successor to KGB. By law, the state has to have knowledge of Kaspersky's source code. That also means they would be in a position to seek exploits in the code, such as intercepting an update request, and sending out their own payload (malware) instead.
I'm not saying it has been done. I'm not saying would have had any role in it. But even if the US warnings are just tit-for-tat against Russian rumormongering n our last elections, they bear cautious watching. I'd figure within a month someone in a basement room is going to have that code torn apart, and have a good look at the packets that come in, and we'll see something independent (allegedly) if there's any meat to the story.
