Hello all. I ordered my 2096 online on 12/30/08, used the 20stuff08 code, and got back a back order from RS. I finally received my scanner today. As soon as I opened the shipping box, I knew something was wrong. The box was bulging in the middle, and it looked as if it had been opened. Sure enough, the scanner was not wrapped in a plastic bag, the screen protector was missing, the owners manual was missing, and the power transformer was gone! The radio looked as if it had been thrown into the box. The protective packing was all jammed in the wrong spots. WTF? It is too late for RS customer service (closed), so I will wait till tomorrow to call. This was obviously a repaired unit from Ft. Worth. I really dont want the scanner, with all of the items missing. I am tempted to call, and (in a nice way) tell them I want a NEW scanner! If I complain hard enough, do you think I can get a Pro-197 from RS for a few dollars More? Thanks! -John

Unacceptable in my opinion. If you order something new then it should be new.

Wow. RS should be ashamed to pack an item like that. I would definitely call and ask for a replacement!

Same thing happened to me just not as bad.
I recieved the scanner in a large box from texas warehouse no packing in the box at all the radio was banging around in the box. Opened it up and inspected the scanner found the antenna missing and the power supply cord was wrapped around it self instead of being tywraped. Best of all the 2096 was defective.
Brought it back to my local RS and got my money back. I did not order another as the manager would only send it out for repair and not order me a new one. I just decided to spend the extra money and buy a PRO 197.
The way I see it right now there are no more 2096 that are in working condition any orders shipped will probably result in the same problems of either it not working or missing parts.
I would suggest saving yourself further aggrevation and spend the extra money if you can and buy a newer scanner.
