Before moving up from Oro Valley in 2019 I regularly monitored A-A intercept exercises in southern AZ....Bigfoot which I think was an AWAC type flight would periodically track & intercept small aircraft & other unknowns in the AZ\Mexico border area up to around the Casa Grande airspace...my question is: Has anyone heard the Bigfoot callsign lately or is this activity no longer occurring, at least in the form it once did? Or has the callsigns changed? I had to stop my monitoring for a few years due to medical issues but have now resumed...any input is welcome

I doubt that it is 270.1 since that is DMA's UHF ATIS frequency
You're right...my old memory isn't what it used to be.....I checked my older scanner & it was 271.00 & 271.1 that I had programmed although the only signals I recorded always seemed to be on the 271.00 freq

BIG FOOT is the call sign. There ae numerous frequencies used, but from my monitoring experience in the past few years, the main freq used is 271.0. This is a WADS frequency (Western Area Defense System), which is part of NORAD (NORth American Defense System).
Before moving to central AZ a few years ago I would monitor 271.0 in soCal all of the time. The Alert fighters out of March ARB would contact BIG FOOT after they departed March for either training (usually at one of the Edwards ranges) or for an actual alert launch.
I kept 271.0 in my scanner after moving here and have heard activity their as recently as earlier this year. It's usually most active when POTUS is visiting the area.

thanks for the detail....I do recall hearing 1-2 times weekly back in 2014-2015 but I'm glad to hear there's still some activity once in a while....I'll set up one my radios to monitor & record & see what I catch...
BIGFOOT is the callsign of the Western Air Defense Sector (WADS) SOCC (Sector Operations Control Center) under the 225th Air Defense Squadron at McChord AFB, Washington (Joint Base Lewis-McChord). They are the Western Region NORAD control hub. They operate remote communications sites throughout CONUS, so you'll hear them in many locations.
