Hopefully this thread will stay on topic....

I hope to be in London on Monday... does anyone have any hints as to where I should be searching for Secret Service, etc frequencies? The Free Press today said security is being handled by a mixture of SS, OPP, RCMP and London Police. Obviously scanning LPD is out of the question.. and I presume RCMP will be in the 420'ish range. I'm thinking OPP may be on some of the encrypted Investigative type talkgroups, but I have no clue where to look for Secret Service. I'll be sure to have Close Call running on my BC246, but the last thing I want is to be seen as the guy sitting across the street from the JLC with a car full of radios

Billly boy wasn't my focus like the answers to my last post seemed to think. When the USA want's to learn about another country'ss electronic response to an attack on their soil, they send a passenger plane close to the border of the test country and watch as the communications become active. They learn a lot about the defence systems and communications during one of these exercises.
Bill being at the JLC is kind of the same senario. I wonder how involved the different law enforcement agencies will be and how much they will share in the resposibilities.
I will be monitoring all O.P.P. frequencies, as I think they will have the most jurisdiction, anyway LPD can't be monitored anyway.
I wish I had some S.S. frequencies. Any ideas anyone.

Thanks for that link... I'll check them out. Maybe I'll do a crosspost in the DC forum and see if anyone there has any ideas. They should have Secret Service activity a lot more than we do!

The word I have is that the SS comms that are real are encrypted, anything else in the clear is just "decoy" activity. GWB was in Ottawa last year and that seemed to be the case. Check all OPP UHF channels. RCMP is more than likely going to be D/ENC all the way.

then he has the SS, and LPD chief Falkner and the newspaper and the people at the JLC fooled. The SS have already been in town checking things out.
I can't imagine the frequencies being used will all be digital. When GWB was in Ottawa, I could see that happening.
I be checking out all OPP frequencies in UHF, the police common channel, the L channels and the OPC channels.

Heh. Right. The guy is a former president. Even if it costs an extra few million for the Secret Service to have secure communications with any Canadian police service, they'll find the money to loan some radios out.

Say what you want about Americans (actually, don't...that's why the other thread got locked) but they usually do a hell of a job keeping their top leaders secure. I can't imagine a yahoo with a cream pie getting anywhere near Clinton...

The most active frequencies used before and during a presidential or vice presidential visit are Baker, Charlie, Mike, and Tango, as well as any channel designated for use by the WHCA. The frequency used most as a nationwide primary repeater channel is Charlie, followed by Baker. Former presidents' security use Mike. Oscar is used for presidential protection nationwide and Papa is used for White House perimeter patrols.

I had a whole whack of USSS frequencies in my radio... and between those, Fleetnet, RCMP and others I heard..... nothing. Absolutely nothing out of the ordinary heard today. I hope someone else had better luck!

Same for me, not even a digital twirp on any frequency. Obviously no need for any communications in the area. Absolutley no threats to old Bill. I guess that is why I like living in Canada so much, we are so peacefull.

The only thing I heard all day out of the normal was in the morning. The TRU team were pretty active on there UHF frequency.

I live in the south part of the city so I do hear them once in a while training

Secret Service details around a President or former President are highly structured operations. There is very little to "discuss" over the SS freqs during the event because everything is already pre-planned, pre-rehearsed, pre-timed and everybody already knows what they are doing.

99% of the garbage coming over police channels when a President is in town is because of poor logistical training, not any fault of the department, but because they don't specialize in it and don't do it day in and day out.

If you are lucky you might hear 5-10 words (unencrypted if you are REALLY lucky) over the course of a couple hours during a Presidential visit. What little that IS said, is usually encrypted.

Your best bet for monitoring when a dignitary or President is in town is listening to the detail on the local law enforcement channels. Or, if you really want the drama, listen to the local media frequencies.
