I have Dircet TV dish and receiver that I'm no longer using. Can this be used to monitor sats? I was reading that one could do this with C-band equipment but I haven't found anything using KU-band equipment.

Military satellites are in the 240-270 MHz range, NFM.

Aside from the frequency (band) situation one of those tiny dishes won't have the required gain for anything but those high power transponders it was designed to receive. Disasseble it and use it as a wok. Now if you had a BUD (big ugly dish) and a proper sat receiver you'd fine a lot more transponders and subcarrier channels carrying everything from soup to nuts, not only TV channels.
