The Talk Group ID for the EMA on the JeffCo Trunked System is 9360. They conduct weekly tests with numerous agencies throughout the county on Wednesdays.
The AL. State EMA/EOC is using Southern-Linc for main operations.
The HQ is in Clanton and ALL AL. Counties talk to them on S/L.
Guess we will se if "The Link" is as reliable as Southern Company says
it is!
Southern Linc is a great administrative communications tool. I'd hate to think that we had to use it for primary communications though. That's my two pennies worth about the reliability.
Thank you Dave for starting this forum. I was picking Bob, trying to glean something new. I was afraid that SoutherLink was the system they were using. Rats! Now that I have power, I guess it is too late anyway. To all, thanks for the info.
I lost power, too. Thank goodness for battery powered scanners!
I spent so much time listening to Birmingham that I never heard anything on the UHF EMA channels. It's going to be very interesting to see what the word is on how the SL radios held up.
BTW... Did you see the video of the tree falling that NBC 13 kept showing? That was my video from my back yard. It just missed my deck.
There was likely not much radio traffic on the state EMA UHF repeaters. They are no longer linked back to the state EOC. The SEOC can only hit Cheaha and Wetumpka from their location. Huntsville and Florence repeaters have been off the air for years. We are hoping that they fix these repeaters soon.
Southern Linc held up fairly well. There are some spots were their coverage is weak or non existant, though. I've been talking to my co-workers who went to Escambia & Conecuh counties to help out. Seems to be doing okay there. We are using the 1 watt handhelds and 15 watt mobiles.
