OK.......... I have read a lot of posts over the last year regarding these two systems. Please be patient with me as I've not been on the Bham system as much as you local folks.

Today while working in B'ham area I was scanning the Jefferson County 800 system.

On the Jefferson County system, operating in SEARCH mode, I got Birmingham PD and FD talkgroups.

I also noticed on the database where one can click on FCC Callsigh and see the antenna sites, Jeffco has more towers. I think I saw 5 on Jeffco while the Birmingham system shows 3.

I can't remember if any one antenna served both systems.

1. Am I to conclude that I should load the Jeffco system and add in the Birmingham talkgroups for best reception over wide areas?

2. Are these two systems now simulcast (as in SmartNet)??

Thanks for your help!!

Both systems function as one SmartZone system. The only difference I can tel from my QTH is the system licensed to Jeferson county is simulcast. The Birmingham system may be also but I don't get that "wavering" sound on analog talkroups.
As far as which control channel to use it depends on your location. The JEFFCO system seems to repeat most (but not all) talkgroups independent of zone/site affiliation. BHM system seems to be more site/zone specific.
