With all the interest in the new radio system for Birmingham, it seems appropriate to show respect for the three officers whose lives were taken today. While serving a misdemeanor warrant in the Ensley area, the officers were fired on, with what is reported to be an AK-47, and all three were killed.

I think I can say for all of us, we are very saddened by this loss, and our thoughts and prayers are with the families and fellow officers.

Sincerely,
Eddiemax

This is very sad and tragic. I really support a mandatory death penalty for the killing of any law enforcement officer. It's about time that a strong message is sent to criminals as a strong deterrent on this issue.

Sad day

Just serving a warrant. Three fine officers loose there lives. We will all remember them, and keep there families in our prayers. Our community has lost a lot.

As a note: The response from other law enforcement agencies was fantastic. What a great group of officers we have in this area.

Rich.

Devistating... that's all I can say. I knew Carlos Owens through work back in the 90's. We weren't on a first name basis but I've been on many scenes with him and he was always a professional and courteous person to deal with.

My prayers are with the family of the slain officers and with their co-workers who are going through such a tremendous shock.

If this doesn't make the city council realize just how much police officers put on the line for such a small amount of pay, nothing will. I hope each council person remembers today when they go to the bank with their fat checks tomorrow.
