so C ("Charlie") unites are citywide task force. I've also been hearing the last few days on all chanells E ("Echo") and A ("Alpha") units. The alpha portion of the unit identifyer is always followed by two numeric digits. Any ideas?

William,
See that is where the problem comes in. These "special ops" or task forces just come up with their own identifiers, without consulting anyone. Causes LOTS of confusion. So the new identifiers will be set in stone.

Hopefully the new system will be similar to Decatur's. Bravo = patrol, Tango = traffic, Delta = detective, ect.
