Just a reminder...

There is only ONE news helicopter in town, and it's shared by ALL of the Denver news outlets, including KOA. It's a blue Eurocopter AStar with a camera ball under the nose and no station markings.

That's why the video looks the same no matter what station you're watching.

Oh, thanks for sharing that! I thought KUSA and KOA had separate helicopters because I've heard them using separate radio channels to communicate with someone in-flight. However, it kinda makes sense the more I think about it. Also, now I can stop trying to find more radio channels for news helicopters which don't exist...:)

Is this typical for a case like this involving a kidnapping suspect (even though the boy was already found in the other car) who had already stolen 2 cars? And when did CSP pick up the chase again with the stop sticks on E-470?

Yeah it is very typical. Often during high-speed chases, high-level supervisors come up on the radio and ask questions about charges, road conditions etc, and often they will order a chase terminated due to safety concerns. As I understand it a 1-David Supervisor ordered the 1-David Troop to terminate 100%, and I believe it was a 1-Charlier trooper who put out the stop sticks and got injured in the process. So, maybe the 1-Charlie Troop was not in "stand-down" mode at the time in question.

(There is a CSP Trooper on RR, he probably can't talk about this particular case but maybe he could shed light on general policies/practices concerning high speed chases?)

I know they call them off often, but didn't know if it was common in the case of an active crime spree with multiple felonies having been committed.

It was CSP Command 6 that originally called all troopers off.

It would be really cool if someone could compile all the Scanner Traffic to run alongside the video (I don't have a Broadcastify archive subscription so I can't). I heard activity on at least the following channels (and I tuned-in a bit late):

*Denver PD Districts 1, 5
*CSP 1 David Dispatch
*CSP 1 Charlie Dispatch
*Arapahoe County SO Primary
*Douglas County SO Primary
*Federal Heights Primary
*Commerce City Primary
*Thornton Primary
*Adams County SO Primary
*Aurora PD (I can't recall exactly which channels, it might have been District 2 Primary and a TAC channel).

It's being done as you speak.

Don't forget Longmont PD, Weld SO, Boulder SO, Brighton PD, Lone Tree PD etc
