Does anyone here plan on taking advantage of any Black Friday deals and splurging on a new radio? There are some screaming deals on Amazon.

If I see any discounts on a Radiodiddy QT80 or Anytone 6666 Pro don’t get between me and my iPad.
I’m sure there must be a discount out there if you look hard enough, lol.

I‘m not getting a new radio yet. Can‘t find anything to tempt me.

Just broke down and bought a G5 duel split 450-512-700/800.
Hope to see it UPS Saturday.
Not that i needed another radio but this combines all of the stuff I listen to in to one in one rig.
Plus I can carry it around at work (bluetooth)

One radio is actually tempting me, and very irrationally, is the Tecsun PL-680. Irrational because I recently got a PL-660, and the PL-680 seems to be almost the same radio but in a different case. Not only that, but the PL-680 is not even on sale.

So, why the yearning? Well, two things. First, both models are really good radios. Second, dsp radios have almost entirely replaced analog tuned radios. It‘s not certain how much longer Tecsun will make new PL-680’s.

I went cheap and got two XHDATA radios on Amazon: the D219 for $7.81 (US version), and the update version of the R-108 for $42.79 using the code 06DealforTB. Total cost, $54.27.

I recently bought the D219 to give away at our December radio meeting, tried it and liked it so much that I bought one for me. Also, I’ve been eyeing the R-108 for some time since I miss my original C. Crane Skywave that I sold on eBay to get the SSB version. I think the non-SSB version sounds better for program listening.

Well, it’s official. Barring some unexpected windfall, there will be no new radios a my house for Christmas. Alas, my laptop has pretty much seen its best days and needs to be replaced.

But… eventually my finances will recover. What then? One thing I may need to break down and do come spring is improve my antenna situation. Currently I get excellent results by simply using a wire hung up around the perimeter of a room. But I’m thinking about an MLA30+ to put outside my window.

Any new radios I buy will likely not be for “need” but will be more of a collector thing. I’m still tempted by the Tecsun PL-680. I also must admit to curiosity about SDR receivers. Maybe I need a waterfall display, lol.

But for now, the radios I have perform well.
