anyone know anything about this? about 2PM i noticed a very slow moving @ APPX 3k Ft slowly moving into the conyers area, it then made about a 6 lap - 2-3 mile wide orbit around the area at the same alt, then left very slowly.... it had me curious.

the bird was looking like a EC-130 and was mostly white except for a black band just forward of the tail planes, and just aft of the start of the tail boom

GOV Bird? i couldnt think enough to grab my E500 with its telephoto lens and snap a picture of it

I can tell you it wasn't me flying over Conyers, but wish it was! Could have been an aerial photography flight or just someone out flying some friends around. I understand there is a businessman in Griffin that owns either an EC-130 or 135. Also, I hear a new Army helicopter unit will be based at Dobbins soon and it will be equipped with about five EC-135s. Now that will be neat!

Are they going to be moving a EC-135 squadron here from somewhere? I know they Army Guard took over the NAS side (they are building a huge new building) so I guess having a helicopter unit at the Guard headquarters sounds about right.

Sure will be glad Dobbins getting more tenants. Watching the C-130's and once in a while seeing an F-22 fly by gets old fast.

New Helicopter Unit at DARB

Not sure if this is a unit being moved from another location or if they are splitting an existing unit into two groups and sending part of it here or just starting up a new unit, but will see what I can find out. I believe the unit will also have several BlackHawks too, so this will definitely increase the air traffic around DARB a little bit. I saw a small yellow R22 fly over MPD HQ today around 1300 hours at low level going toward the Kennestone Hospital area possibly transitioning up to McCollum. The wind blowing out of the southwest was causing the entire fuselage to sway back and forth pretty good, but that isn't unusual for an R22. I understand the new unit will be housed one or both of the large hangars formerly occupied by NAS Atlanta.

Hehe, Even McCollum gets an occasional F-18 along with a variety of Marine choppers.

Ah, Weiss lake, flown over that many times going to Centre. Lockheed Martin does flight testing of C-130s and F-22s over the lake.
