Hi all!

Several years ago I used to be quite active on this forum. We kind of ran out of steam with the group when some people moved away, and one of our key contributors passed away. I wanted to leave a note here for posterity. As the UCA moves to a P25 system over the next few years, the information on UtahRadio.org will become more and more out of date. I made a commitment years ago that, no matter what, the information on that site would always be available as long as it was useful. Once the P25 migration / cutover is complete, there will be little use for the current content.

So, I'd like to throw that out there to the community. Does anyone have any interest in taking up the UtahRadio.org mantel and providing useful information to the broader community for the next decade? It would be nice to see the site redone to share information about how people can monitor public safety after P25 is a reality. If anyone is interested, please contact me: simpkins (dot) ryan at gmail (dot) com. I am also frequently available on DMR TG3149, and can be reached via phone at eight zero one, six zero two, eight six six one.

If no one is interested, I'll keep the current site up as long as I can manage before finally letting it die. Hope all is well with everyone, and thank you SO MUCH for keeping public safety monitoring alive. I believe you play an important role in assisting citizens as they monitor public safety activity in a safe and responsible way. Listening to a scanner far away from the action is always better than chasing flashing lights.

-Ryan

Thank-you for the work you have done to get that site up, running and current. I know that many appreciate your work, I certainty do/did.
That said, I am one of those "point and click"ers. I have zero skills in that area of expertise. I thank-you for yours.

Quote: Been awhile since I was active.
Who currently is the caretaker/admin of the UtahRadio.org website?
I have some projects that I am working on that would dovetail nicely on there.
I also need to setup a new account.

Ryan (N2OW) and Damon (KC7NEC)
I believe I can speak for the majority of Utah members on this forum.
The two of you really need to get in contact with each other.
Best regards to both of you.

Damon and I have met several times, though it has been probably 10 years. Maybe he forgot I was running UtahRadio.org? Anyway, I'd be glad to help transfer the site to anyone who'd like to commit to running it. He even has an account on the site: User:UtahApocalypse - UtahRadio

Good to see ya! I am back in Utah. Yeah, unfortunately, I don't remember my password for the UtahRadio account. I also don't have the email it was set upon. I don't know that I have the bandwidth for taking the entire sire over but would be very interested in working with some others,

I can reset it for you if that would be helpful. I think with the P25 cutover planned, there is little point to maintaining the site. We just need to maintain it long enough for people to copy what information they need. If the Utah scanner community doesn't have a need for the site I'll check with some ham radio contacts I have. They may want to use it.

I keep analytics running on the site. Currently it has about 100 returning visitors a month, and about 2,000 visitors total each month (most of those are bots). The most popular pages are the radio codes used in Utah, and the WIN500 & Unitrunker pages. Currently the developers of those sites link to UtahRadio.org to help users out. The most at risk content we have on the site are those pages. Pulling it down will impact the community at large, with some minor impact in Utah for those systems still running analog trunk.

I do agree that with the change to P25 a lot of the information will become outdated. I think when we first started it years ago there wasn't an easy place to organize all of the research so many in our group did. Now RadioReference has its own built-in Wiki, including pages for Utah already. Now may a good time for a few of us to start migrating data over before we let the old pages die.

Right, the entire site was build with MOTOTRBO systems at its heart. There is a fair bit of backend programming that keeps all the information straight, and automatically updates as the RR DB updates. There is simply so much that would have to change to support P25 that starting from scratch is probably the right call. That, and it would be a good time to transition the content to be directly in the hands of the active Utah Scanning community. This group is going to be pretty busy over the next 3-4 years updating records to support the P25 system. It is a good time to think about copying needed data prior to the community getting so busy analyzing the new UCA system.
