The Past few months I have noticed the Blount County sheriff have been using almost 100% Encryption except the dispatchers. I guess they are following suit like the rest of the state to 100% E. But like I have said before guess the the whole TACN system will be E sooner then Later.

From what I have been told 100% encryption on TACN is not a requirement, any agency can choose whether they want to encrypt all or some if they want. TACN does not pressure agencies into going E.

There is NO requirement for departments to go Encrypted on TACN. It is truly a department decision. Robertson Co Sheriff and LE is Encrypted as Fire/EMS/EMA is not.. Though they have access to some LE talk groups for interop that are

But there is an federal requirement for PII to be fully encrypted if put out on the air. Personally Identifiable Information, such as SSN etc. See numerous other discussions on the forums. This is a driving factor for encryption.

the key word is this "Federal agencies" are required to encrypt Personally Identifiable Information (PII) both at rest and in transit.
i take this as not local law enforcement only federal law enforcement agencies .

I dont fully agree with this. Encryption is 100% a choice as seem with many agencies choosing to encrypt some of thier talkgroups and not some. Like THP and how each region has one clear TG. Im also guessing some agencies value transparency more than others. Now in the busier parts of the state with more crime and more bad actors encryption may be used to keep that info away from them, but a lot of TN is rural middle of nowhere where the cattle outnumber the people.
