I am wondering what other radio enthusiasts and hams use for a bluetooth headset. I tried using my Beats Flex headset and it is very noisy on VHF air compared to my cheap wired headset. Really interested in dumping wired headsets for the convenience of wireless. Any recommendations?.

If your scanner/receiver supports bluetooth, there should be no problem.
I may be wrong, but the beats, have an active audio for hearing local sounds, turn that feature off.
One toy I have is a Sony TMR-RT10A bluetooth host device. It has a 3.5 mm plug that works on earphone jacks.
USB rechargable, about 4 hour use. I connect with my JVC, N65, and Turtle beach headphones.
With local audio off, the Turtle Beach headphones do great at like noisy airshow monitoring.

I have the Icom VS-3 that I use with my R30 and the ID52 and I note that particularly on the R30 there is a continuous background noise in the earphones which is not there if I use a wired headset. This becomes much worse if I use standard bluetooth earbuds/headsets with the radios but especially so with the R30. This is so tiresome that I generally use a wired pair of earphones if monitoring airband.

I use the Jabra Elite 7 Active ear buds to pair with my Icom R15 and they work great with no background noise or hiss. The ANC feature does a very good job of diminishing outside sounds. I have a couple of Anker Soundcore buds, the Life P3i and Liberty 4 NC that pair no problem but the audio is uneven.

What type of noises? Are they present when listening to something else?

It is coming on certain freqs., depending on the time of day. I hear it only on my Icom IC-705 on VHF air, the IC-R15 does not pick up these noises. I wish the IC-705 was as excellent as the IC-R15 on VHF air.

With the VS3 and the R30 there is a continuous background noise that I believe is introduce by the audio coding for the Bluetooth link. It sounds a little like frying back (definitely back bacon, not streaky) and I find it worse with other Bluetooth headsets.
