I found this Bluetooth transmitter on eBay. What I would like is a transmitter that actually has the 1/8" plug built into the transmitter, so that it protrudes from the unit itself, instead of having a 2" cord coming out of the unit with the plug on the end. That way, it could just plug right into the top of the handheld scanner in the headphone jack. Does anyone know of such a thing?

Certainly more pricey and the transmitter is not that small so depending on what scanner it is it may not fit between the antenna and volume or whatever, but they do exist, keep on hunting you should find something. I did see a mod somebody did with a transmitter similar to that where they used two-way tape to attach it to the battery cover. It was a very small one from a cell phone I think.

Logitech Wireless Bluetooth Headphones for IPOD MP3 PC - eBay (item 230338689822 end time May-21-09 16:43:24 PDT)

I have a couple of these and they work great, the transmitter can pair with lots of bluetooth devices, not just the headphones they come with.

I am pretty sure I've seen a JBL unit that is as you describe.

I use the Logitech Freepulse. Transmitter is a little black rectangular with a 1/8" plug built in that you plug into the earphone jack. It comes with a number of adaptors for different kinds of MP3 players. I've used this with my PSR500. Headphones are not a great fit, and audio sometimes blinks in and out, but for size and ease of use it's quite good. Not sure whether you can use different BT headphones with the transmitter--I've never tried.
