What an idiot. Wasted a 14 year LE career for $500 bux in tools.

BLUFFTON, IND. -- City officials were considering disciplinary action against the assistant police chief after he was charged with shoplifting nearly $500 in items from a Fort Wayne hardware store.

Assistant Police Chief Roger A. Miller pleaded not guilty Monday in Allen Superior Court to a misdemeanor count of criminal conversion, which carries a penalty of up to a year in jail.

Miller was arrested on Sunday after security officers at the Glenbrook Square Sears Hardware said they saw him pay for a mat, place it over other items he had put in a cart and leave the store, court records said.

The security staff told police that Miller also gave a false address and claimed to be unemployed.

Bluffton Police Chief Tammy Schaffer suspended Miller with pay, but he could face additional action from the city's Board of Public Works.

Miller, 43, is a 14-year veteran of the police force in the city about 20 miles south of Fort Wayne. He was appointed assistant chief last July.

Telephone calls to a home telephone number listed in Miller's name seeking comment from him rang busy on Tuesday.

I agree he's an idiot, but if security were LEOs working secondary, you never would have heard about this incident.
