OK, now for my next question about LMR-240…

I have various crimpers for BNC, TNC, FME, F etc. If I want to crimp a BNC onto a piece of LMR-240, can I use the same crimper head that I would use for RG-58/U?

No - you need a connector made for use with the LMR240 cable - see selection below and select
the one for LMR240 by scrolling down.

BNC 50 Ohm RF Coax Connectors Product

EDIT: you did not state what crimp tool you have and just curious if you are using a good quality crimp tool.

I think you misunderstood my question. I know I will need a BNC connector specifically made for LMR-240. I was asking if the same crimp head (dies) for RG-58/U can be used. The reason I ask is because RG-58/U and LMR-240 are very similar in O.D.

I have Ideal brand crimpers & dies.

That would depend on what ever crimp connector/die combo you are using and yes i thought
you were asking about the crimp connector, sorry - that's what happens when you are
multitasking too many things at the same time. i am not familiar with that brand so check your
crimp die and see what crimp sizes are on each die and find out what sizes you need for the
LMR240 vs RG-58/U or if all else fails see if Ideal has a support number and call them/ask.
