Hey all,
Does anyone have a good list of frequencies for the BNSF & UPRR in the Denver/Littleton, CO area? I just moved out here and used to love listening to and chasing the NS and CSX trains around my old home in Baltimore. Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

Skipshark,
You might want to merge skiing's list together with the one I sent you though I do have some reservations about his `numbering' AAR `channel-wise'. {GRIN!} Just for the heck of it I tried it on my PCR-1000 today and the ones in his list that I didn't have already loaded up brought in some new traffic. (The list in the PCR-1000 isn't quite the same as the one I sent you because I haven't gotten around to upgrading it to match my handheld's programing and I guess that because both my using the HH out on the road and the PCR-1000 pretty much strictly base right now because I've got to get a new automotive power pack for my old TP-600E because I fried the original I just haven't bothered `synching' the two like I used to. Sometimes it is nice having multiple radios and other times... Let's just say that some things just seem to fall by the wayside now and then. {WAN GRIN!})

One other thing you might also possibly need to know about the list I sent is that I live just outside of Platteville and even with an external antenna I don't get all that much traffic from down your way. So... You may not get much on some of the freqs I listed and there will probably be a few that you will get stuff on that I didn't list. I was up in Wheatland, Wyo. a couple weeks ago and until I actually scanned the list of the AAR channels I thought that there just wasn't all that much going on even though I heard what sounded like quite a few trains passing through. (It appears that after we finally get moved up there I am going to be having quite a `field day' putting together a new bank and list of RR freqs! One fairly good thing I discovered is that the crews around the area are fairly `RailFan friendly' and were fairly easy to talk to when they weren't busy. Unfortunately I was only able to snag a couple 1/2 to 3/4 hour sessions the whole time we were up there so I may be wrong about it and I was just `lucky'.)

????!! I think you mean the Dispatcher numbers. ya know "UP Dispatcher 86 to the UP 8965 south a Bragdon". I didn't include the AAR numbers. Sorry for the confusion. Anyway, I have a PRO-76 dedicated to RR. I have the AAR channels programed to follow the channel numbers in the radio. i.e. scanner channel 7 is AAR channel 7. I took a trip to ND going up through Douglas and Bill WY back in July and heard tons of traffic, especially between Bill and Douglas. Lots of coal from the Power River Basin. The only problem I have is that I didn't note the channels, just listened. Maybe next time.

thanks for all the info all, I have been monitoring from my location in Littleton and picked up a good amount of traffic. I had one question about a frequency I found in a search. It was 160.290. It appeared to be a DTMF Call patch to the BNSF Dispatch Center. A train operator in englewood placed two calls to the Dispatch Center on this frequency using what sounded like DTMF tone dialing (first time he was put on hold and a recorded message kept playing over the frequency "You have reached the Burlington Northern Sante Fe Dispatching Center, all calls will be processed in the order recieved"). Does anyone know what the true purpose of this frequency is? Or is it just for DTMF Calling?

Whoops! I usually don't actually note the dispatcher numbers as I'm usually more interested in the train numbers and other things. {WAN GRIN!} I only include the AAR#s so that when one catches a `set radio to' it's easier to just note that and `keep watch' on that `channel'. I've got the entire AAR freqs programmed by number in my AOR AR-1000 & AR-1500, ICOM PCR-1000, and PRO-97s & (Hopefully soon!) PRO-2055s. In the scanners that don't have 100ch banks I either have them split between a couple banks or just have what `active' freqs I may be interested in at the time programmed into just one bank. I also keep `FRED' and `WILMA' programed, too, though I usually unlock them only when I'm `chasing' and they aren't doing much talking. As for `coal trains'... Yep! There is a `ton' of traffic pretty much all up and down that `edge' of Wyoming. I also get quite a bit of it here, too. Though not nearly as much as I suspect I'll be getting after we finally get moved.

This is AAR Channel 12, it may be liscenced to BNSF for an a phone pacth channel.

follow this link; http://www.on-track-on-line.com/scanner-radio.shtml#scnradio3 ; to get a listing of AAR Channel to Frequency. I did a Google search on "AAR Channel List" to find this page, I don't know what other content is on the website. it may have more info for you.

I don't know if this managed to get through to you from the first posting but, this is a site you may find `interesting'. {GRIN!}}

http://www.railfanswelcome.com/

On another note... I've finally gotten a PRO-2055 (Note to whomever it was who said that they couldn't tell the PRO-2055 from the PRO-2096 when they are stacked together... Either schedule a visit to an Opthamologist, not an Optomitrist (Sp?), or get better lighting in your shack! No matter whether I put it at the top, bottom, or middle of my PRO-2096 stack it stands out. [Yeah... It does also have PRO-2055 in small slightly italic black lettering but, It doesn't need that to distinguish it from the PRO-2096s.] {VB GRIN!}) and finally got it loaded with all the AAR channels, `FRED', and `WILMA' and am giving it a bit of a `workout'. Initial impressions are that it seem to be quite good for `RailFanning'. (For the heck of it I have been trying it on my RS `Mag Mount' scanner antenna [`Tweaked' to be better through the 160 - 161 MHz RR freq ranges.] tossed up on the roof of my `shack'. While it isn't exactly like having it on the roof of my `Exploder', trailer house metal roofs are obviously a lot bigger area, it seems that I am not going to be having any `problems' with that antenna / radio combination when I finally get around to making some sort of mount for the PRO-2055 in the `Exploder'. [Thank goodness it is a '91 `Exploder'! Even with bucketseats and a `console' I've still got a whole bunch of `open space' between the console and the dash unlike how it is in SWMBO's '97 `Exploder'.w/ that `swoopy' console that takes up every bit of space from the back of the front seats to the dash. (In that one I have to have a mount for the radios that sits on the floor between the console and fron of the back seats and use a mirror to see the radios! Either that or have someone actually sitting in the back. {FROWN!})] On my `regular' scanner antenna it is almost as good as any of my PRO-2006s reception-wise and scan speed `wise' it is a `toss up' until I switch over to the OPTO-456 in the PRO-2006s.) I, personal opinion because I am a GRE radio `fan', would definitely recommend the PRO-97 and PRO-2055 scanners for `RailFanning'. (The only thing I worry about is the plastic belt clip that the PRO-97 comes with. Not only is it plastic but, it is attached in a way that makes it hard, if not impossible, to put a good solid metal belt clip on it like one can do with the PRO-96s.)

If anyone wants my .P97 file with the AAR channels and the analog, LTR, and EDACS stuff for the Northern Front Range area PM me with an email address I can send it to and I will.
