I've also been hearing aircraft (Airtac 51 calling Div. C) this evening on XLC A/G (156.33), which I find a little odd since it's not a USFS Freq I know of. Sounds like chatter between a ground unit and a plane doing the nightly aerial infrared mapping (Which I've also heard on AG59 these last 2 nights.)
They are currently discussing mapping now and returning just prior to first daylight to re-map and chart fire growth.

On a somewhat related note, there's a Mt Wilson Camera looking at the fire here:

Sorry, xilix. I transposed the 8 & 3. Interesting that it turned out to be another A/T freq.
Oh those senior moments hours days!

I also heard this morning Air Attack on ANF being told A/G was to be 156.33. I couldn't believe it as it is between Marine CH 66A (156.325) & Marine CH 7A (156.350). I know they are running short of freqs, but why/how pick one in the marine band.

NIFC Tac 1 should be 168.0500 unless something has changed that I don't know about.

I hate to repeat but does anyone have an explanation for the use of 156.330 in the VHF Marine Band for A/G tac?
Has anyone come across this before?
How was it chosen?
Is this in some list of similar freqs we should load in our scanners?
Will this idiot stop with the questions?

156.3300 is XLC (LA County Operational area "C") air-to-ground, license KMA235. Not sure how that one was granted, but I bet it has something to do with narrowbanding as well as being a short bit from the ocean and its relatively low usage.

KMA235 belongs to the city of San Marino just south of Pasadena approx 25 miles north of LA/LB harbors, perhaps the busiest port area in the US.
Marine CH 66A (156.325) is designated for port operations & 7A (156.350) as "commercial".
Under normal city use I can see no interference between San Marino & the ports.
But a plane at 6,500 feet at a distance of 40 miles is an entirely different situation . I would assume the FCC never envisioned such a situation nor would have allowed it. 6,500 feet above Kansas, OK. But So CAL?

Angeles National Forest Fire Net Live Audio Feed - ANF Feed - hearing Command Net - 110 PM EDT - "Gulf" talking about 39 at 2 - earlier some commanders were talking about minor slopover on dozer line near Chantry Flats - air attack and helco would keep an eye on it - dont want to send in dozers (safety issues)

Right Side of CA on maps

Interesting, it looks like the Angeles is not using any tac or command NIFC frequencies. The federal air to ground is in the NIFC system and I think they have to have NIFC authorization for the V fires, but otherwise they are doing it all local. The air tactics looks like one of those federal unused frequencies in the fire's area type of assignment.

KMA237 shows that 156.33 was first licensed for mobile use in 1987 - not sure how accurate that is

Greenfield Massachusetts Police had an active license on 156.33 in 1972 on KCB221 - guess that would be 'precedent'
