^ That's partially why I was asking for verification. I couldn't remember if there was another rail tunnel up there or not.

But hey, when you're posting information about current events using cryptic letter sequences, who needs facts, eh?

Now you made me go look.

In fact, there are two between Port Huron and Sarnia, one opened in 1910 (which predates the Detroit/Windsor rail tunnel) and a new one opened in 1994 replacing the older one:

St. Clair Tunnel - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I say two because even though only one is operating, I doubt they filled in the original.

The first opened in 1891, was sealed in 1994, when the newer of the two opened. There was no operational need for the older of the two, as it was too small for the bigger dimensions of what CN carries (think double stacked containers). As with any company, why incur maintenance costs on an an asset not being used, hence the sealing.

Cheers

There is no tunnel at Sarnia, just the Blue Water bridge. There is a tunnel connecting Windsor and Detroit.
