ARAPAHOE COUNTY - An employee at a landfill discovered human remains Saturday morning, amongst the trash and debris.
The body was discovered around 10:55 a.m. in a Waste Management landfill located at 3500 South Gun Club Road, police said.

Sheriff's deputies investigated and confirmed the body was human, but could not verify its gender, age or race.

"The Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office and Arapahoe County Coroner's Office have initiated what will be a very complex, potentially lengthy and detailed investigation," said Sheriff Grayson Robinson.

Police suspect the body was dumped there during the early morning hours on Saturday.

The body was discovered in an area used by commercial trash haulers, police said.

9NEWS and 9NEWS.com will continue to update this story as more information becomes available.

Speaking of smell, I would hate to be the officers sitting out there tonight guarding the entrance. What a crappy detail for the night.

Anyone who may have had any contact with Thomas Henry Martinez since July 2006 is requested to contact the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office at 303-795-4711.

ARAPAHOE COUNTY - Using fingerprint records, police were able to successfully identify the body found Saturday in a Waste Management landfill.

Police identified the body as 27-year-old Thomas Henry Martinez.

An employee at a landfill discovered Martinez's remains Saturday morning, amongst the trash and debris.

The body was discovered around 10:55 a.m. Saturday in a landfill located at 3500 South Gun Club Road, police said.

Sheriff's deputies initially could not verify the body's gender, age or race.

Police suspect Martinez's body was dumped there during the early morning hours on Saturday.

The body was discovered in an area used by commercial trash haulers, police said, which opens the possibility that the body came from a trash container in the metro area.

The sheriff's office is requesting the assistance of the community in this case.
