...just a quick FNG question...what good is the portable wind up antennae that came with my YB400PE? Either i'm doing something wrong or it just doesn't work. The stock antennae gives far better reception, at least in my area.

Yikes! Thanks for that info, it was next on my list. I have to say I'm really impressed w/ the YB 400. No complaints in the whip ant. dept., just looking to extend my reach.
I have had pretty much the same experience with that "yo-yo" antenna. What seems to make it work better is if you attach an alligator clip to the end of it and clip it to the telescopic antenna instead of plugging it in to the radio itself. When fully extended to 23 feet, it seems to pull in distant stations a lot better than just the telescopic one.

I agree Jayfurd i've tried the same thing with wire antennas on sangean radios. If you clip it to the antenna you get better reception. Even 8 or 10 ft of wire helps. If you go over about 25 or 30 ft it completely overdrives the front end of the newer receivers.
