My wife, brother-in-law, sister-in-law and I went to Boone IA and rode the rail bikes at Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad on Thursday.

While we were there, I saw Kenwood transceivers in use.

I checked the FCC website and the FRN associated with them shows one current callsign, WPYB976, with the following five frequencies.

Does anybody happen to know if they are using analog or NXDN, which frequency is the repeater input and how/if the various frequencies are use?

My guess is that 161.325 might be used because it would have the most separation from the repeater.

160.260

160.365

160.530 Repeater

160.710

161.325

UPDATE:

I did find this here, but it still doesn't answer the question of whether they are analog or NXDN and if the rail bikes use the same radios. I am assuming that they do.

See how it says FMN under mode? That means they are on analog, at least as of the time of this DB entry.

Which, is exactly why I made this post. If they were using NXDN, how long would it take for this to get updated? Is it truly carrier squelch, on the input AND output, or does it simply mean that nobody knows?

The repeater may have PL tone on it now. I recall getting a email several years ago to add PL to my personal radio. I don't recall what it was. 99% sure they are still analog. Been awhile since I have been over that way.
