LYONS - Boulder County Sheriff's Office detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a man's body in McCall Lake late this morning.
A fisherman called in the discovery of the body at about 11:30 a.m. The body was just off of the east shore of the lake, which is a popular fishing hole northwest of Longmont.
"At this point we are actually looking at this as a possible homicide until otherwise we're able to rule that out," said Sue Cullen, spokeswoman with the Boulder County Sheriff's Office.

RE: Death Investigation at McCall Lake

Case #08-5775

At approximately 11:33 a.m. Thursday morning, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office was notified that a fisherman had discovered a body in McCall Lake, approximately three miles west of Longmont, south of CO Hwy 66.

Upon arrival, deputies found the body of an adult male, estimated to be in his 50’s, floating in shallow water near the east shore of the lake. The body was recovered from the lake by divers from the Longmont Emergency Unit and Boulder Emergency Squad. Firefighters from the Hygiene Volunteer Fire Department also responded to assist.

Sheriff’s detectives and medical investigators from the Boulder County Coroner’s Office, assisted by officers and investigators from the Longmont Police Department, conducted a detailed investigation at the scene. An autopsy is slated to occur on Friday. While the cause and manner of the man’s death have yet to be officially determined, investigators do not believe that foul play was involved. The decedent has been tentatively identified; however, that information will not be released until the Coroner’s Office can make notification to next of kin.

His name was jerry stirek and worked for IBM in Boulder. My dad new him and went camping together.

He used to visit a bar in Longmont (Can't remember the name, will update), but when the owner didn't see him for a week she became worried. She wrote our close friend an E-Mail about how she saw his red pickup truck in the paper. Apparently, he was given a DUI before and thought his job was on the line. We're thinking he was drunk at the time. He must have had issues before, especially when people seen him going to that lake reading the paper. Although, that may not have been him. His family, two sisters live in other states.

You just have to pull up your boot straps and fight the demons. Drinking is no solution, its a depressant!
