From CSP:

The Colorado State Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle crash resulting in one fatality that occurred on Highway 36, near Longhorn Road. At 2:30 a.m., a 2003 Volkswagen Jetta was traveling westbound on Highway 36 at a high rate of speed through a curve when it entered the oncoming traffic lane. The Volkswagen collided head-on with an eastbound 2013 Audi RS5.

After the collision, the Volkswagen traveled off the southern side of the road and rolled multiple times. Two passengers were ejected during the rollover.

The Volkswagen's driver, 22-year-old Kevin Winnie of Longmont, was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash and sustained moderate injuries; he was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The two ejected passengers, both 21-year-old males from Longmont, were not wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash. One of the passengers sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. The other sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital; his name is not being released due to the severity of his injuries.

The Audi's driver--37-year-old Jose Pacheco of Deming, New Mexico--was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash and sustained minor injuries.

Excessive speed and alcohol and/or drug use are suspected as contributing factors in the crash. Charges are pending against Winnie.

The roadway was dry at the time of the crash, and no inclement weather was reported.

Contact the Boulder County Coroner's office for information regarding the fatally injured passenger.
