Man cuts own throat running from deputy

The Daily Times-Call

GUNBARREL — A man wanted on a felony escape warrant fled on foot from a Boulder County deputy Monday night and cut his own throat with a box cutter after the deputy stopped his car on a traffic violation, according to officials. His injury was not life-threatening.
Sgt. Jim Chamberlin of the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office said a deputy stopped the man’s car on Colo. Highway 119 at 63rd Street on suspicion of a traffic violation at about 9 p.m. Chamberlin did not know the man’s name but said the deputy asked him to put out a cigarette during the stop. The man crouched down to crush the cigarette, stood quickly with a box cutter in his hand and ran from the deputy. During the chase, the man cut his own throat, tripped over barbed wire in a field and fell.
Chamberlin said the man was taken to Boulder Community Hospital for stitches and would then be taken to the Boulder County Jail. He said the man was arrested on a felony escape warrant out of Jefferson County and on suspicion of the traffic violation, criminal impersonation and obstruction.
A passenger in the car was cooperative and was not arrested.
