Rescuers from the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group and Four Mile Fire Protection District, assisted by rangers from Boulder City Mountain Parks and Boulder County Sheriff’s deputies rescued a despondent man from a mountain ridge immediately west of Boulder in Boulder Canyon early Thursday morning

Christopher Jenkins, 26, of Lafayette, reportedly called his father early this morning and threatened to harm himself. His father, who resides out of state, contacted Boulder County Sheriff’s Communications to report his concerns and to provide a phone number for his son. As dispatchers were attempting to contact Mr. Jenkins, he called the Communications Center at about 7:00 a.m. and informed them that he had fallen and was in great pain.

Dispatchers sent Sheriff’s deputies and rescue personnel to an area near the mouth of Boulder Canyon at the west edge of the City of Boulder, where a ground search was initiated. Approximately two-dozen rescuers from the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group, Four Mile Canyon Fire Protection District, and Boulder City Mountain Parks searched the ridges and trails along the south side of Boulder Creek. Their efforts were complicated by heavy fog and misting rain that limited visibility and compromised footing.

Mr. Jenkins was located on a ridge approximately 400 yards above a residence at 40400 Boulder Canyon Drive by a City Mountain Parks ranger at approximately 7:55 a.m. He was subsequently evacuated by litter by members of the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group and transported to Boulder Community Hospital by paramedics from the Pridemark Ambulance Service. The extent of his injuries, if any, are unknown at the time of this release.
