Loveland Reporter-Herald
A 21-year-old Evans man drowned Saturday afternoon while swimming at Boyd Lake.
Omar Felix was swimming with family members and friends at the state park in east Loveland, according to press releases from the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office and Larimer County Coroner’s Office.
Felix reportedly was swimming just off the swim beach near the buoys when he began to struggle and disappeared underwater.
Loveland police received a call at 12:06 p.m. about a possible drowning. The Loveland Dive Rescue team arrived on scene at 12:13 and found him in six feet of water at 12:48, according to Deputy Fire Marshal Scott Pringle.
When Felix was pulled to the surface, he wasn’t breathing and had no pulse, Pringle said. He was taken to McKee Medical Center in Loveland, where he was pronounced dead at 1:36 p.m., according to the Coroner’s Office.
Coroner’s investigators don’t believe alcohol or drugs were involved. Deputy Coroner Dr. Michael F. Arnall ruled that Felix died of accidental drowning.
