I have not heard anything either. I normally monitor COTHEN but it's been pretty quiet on my end. In the past I have monitored Gulf of Mexico shrimpers on 6516 kHz, so it might be worth monitoring to see what they are saying. Also boats for one of the offshore companies has a morning net on 4125 kHz

I had heard that the ship which is stationed over the pipe to collect oil was hit by lightning and started a fire onboard. They had to shut down for 5 hours.
BTW/at last report, the oil spill is now 14 times bigger than the exxon valdez spill in alaska.

Logs from BP oil spill comms

Here are some of my logs for the past 2 days relating to the BP oil spill.

15-Jun-2010

5320 USB 0738z: USCGC Resolute wkg various US Coast Guard Cutters in Gulf of Mexico. Cutter Resolute requests whiskey figures from USCGC Diamondback, USCGC Elm, USCGC Juniper, USCGC Marlin, USCGC Seahawk and USCGC Heron.

5320 USB 0848z: USCGC Resolute wkg Keys 10 (sound like) and assigns them to work w/ Task Force 1 and 3. USCGC Resolute relays to Keys 10 that Task Force 1 is monitoring 81A and Task Force 3 is monitoring 83A and to advise Cutter Resolute of any reports they get.

5320 USB 0952z: USCGC Cypress wkg USCGC Resolute; reports they have no product to offload.

16-June-2010

5320 USB 0239z: USCGC Seahawk wkg USCGC Resolute w/ position and discussion about oil slick.

5320 USB 0829z: CG Aircraft 2307 wkg USCGC Resolute; has comms w/ M/V Seabrook and they have boats in area ready to go.

5320 USB 0839z: USCGC Resolute clg Romeo Charlie 26 but no response heard.

5320 USB 0904z: USCGC Cypress wkg USCGC Resolute w/ position.

5320 USB 0920z: USCGC Resolute requests Keys 10 to contact the New Jersey Responder on 81A.

5320 USB 1004z: USCGC Resolute wkg USCGC Diamondback and wants to know if they have comms w/ Task Force 2.

Nothing heard this morning, so either conditions were terrible or they moved to another freq. Most traffic is weak here in California but anyone located near the Gulf should have no problem copying this net.

This freq is way lower than a scanner could hear - although a radio such as the R7000, AOR5000, or even the Icom computer driven radios could with a good antenna. Scanners generally don't go below 27 mhz or so (almost the top end of the HF spectrum) 73 Mike
