Does anyone else's BR330T SMA connector, move slightly inside the case, and once in a while, especially when they antenna is moving or "whipping", making little snaps and cracks, but it appears the the connector is stuff is not being or already damaged. It doesn't really move really far, just probably not even 1/16 of an inch. It just seems to "snap" every now and then.

By any chance did you use a tall heavy antenna or drop it head first?

Hmm

Well I used the Radio Shack Center Loaded Whip Antenna before, and it only did drop on it's side and bottom. I mean it's not really broken, it just seems to move a tiny tiny tiny bit. It doesn't really move, at least no enough to see it. I did although always have to use the BNC to SMA connector to use almost all my antennas except the factory "rubber duckie". It's kinda like on the back of a VCR or TV, where the coaxial jack moves ever so slightly.

Oh and since it's made to be portable, one single drop on a tile floor, should not ruin or really affect it right? It doesn't seem to have anything wrong with it, but didn't know if I should get it repaired or not, I know someone who dropped their portable radio scanner on concrete/cement and it still works fine, and that definitely should have done way more damage in my opinion then a tile floor and I dropped remotes like tons of times and somehow they always still worked.

I'd send it in to Uniden before more damage is done...possibly to the main circuit board. Unless you're comfortable opening it up and taking a look for yourself.

The new Unidens are not built mechanically as well as the older models. You must handle them with care.

If I might make a suggestion... While it won't help you any with your connector issue - I've never had very good luck with those antennas. Give something like a Comet SMA-24 a try and I think you'll notice your reception will improve vastly, over the Radio Shack antenna. Of course, low-band won't work very hot, but it works amazing in the VHF/UHF side of the world.

Are you saying that because of the SMA connector or because of drops?

Not too sure about that. My 246 dropped to a concrete floor from five feet, the batteries came out and the radio bounced, but it's working great. A Uniden built PRO-90 did not survive the same type of fall. YMMV +:)

You can take it apart and tighten the nut on the sma connector. If the nut is loose the connector will move. Use a grounding wrist strap. Tightening the SMA connector nut shouldn't invalidate the warrenty.

Actually opening the case invalidates the warrenty. It's all about how long you can live without your radio if you send it in for repairs.

I am looking at my 396 warranty statement and it says nothing about opening the case and invalidating the warranty. How would they tell if you opened the case or not? Something as simple as tightening the nut on the SMA connector would take 20 minutes.

"(D) serviced or repaired by someone other than an authorized Uniden service
center for a defect or malfunction covered by this warranty"

Okay I was wrong, technically it invalidates the warranty. Still, how would a service technician know if you opened the case or not? What do you do after the warranty expires? Send the scanner in for three weeks and pay $45.00 for tightening a nut?

If the warranty is out of date you can send it in and pay the $45, or if you think you could open it without any additional damage, you could try it yourself :)
